Our History

Digirock was established by Peta Libby in 1998 as Digital Rock Services (DRS) Pty Ltd and specialised in resource modeling and data compilation. As part of a planned expansion, John Libby joined the company in 2002 as Chief Consulting Geologist. Due to the high demand for their geological services in 2005, Peta and John Libby began employing other quality geologists. The vision for DRS was to build a team of geologists who are passionate about field work and their science and have a strong desire to succeed in their chosen career path. We recognise that individuals have a life outside of work and that this needs to be balanced with career demands.

In 2006 Digital Rock Services changed its name to Digirock Pty Ltd. Since February 2005, Digirock has grown from a team of three geologists to a team of 25 Geologists, three Field Assistants and four administrative staff. This equates to more than ten-fold growth which we attribute to a combination of a boom in commodity prices and Digirock’s rapidly expanding reputation as the premier supplier of geological field services in Western Australia. After a very difficult time post-GFC Digirock bounced back thanks to the quality and hard work of its staff and the reputation they helped cement.

In recognition of the need to bridge the gap between university theory and geological field practice, Digirock began developing training programs for exploration geoscientists in June 2008. The formal training program was launched in October 2008 and was followed up in early 2010 with an internal roll-out of the formalised Digirock Graduate Geologist Training Program.
